Cumberland and Furness
A morning glimpse across the Solway Firth to Scotland from Maryport then a leisurely drive South via St Bees Head and West Cumbria before hitting the old County Palatine line at the River Duddon. So many sad, locked and unloved churches even in this relatively traditional and conservative area. The only thriving religious site seemed to be the Buddhism-nouveaux of Conishead. Why?
